Our Men Teams Origin
Arkadiusz Natalicz started PVG in late 2014 when the Polish priest invited those who attend Polish masses to join sports activities. Our first friendly game was with NUIG in Kingfisher on 15/03/2015, with Darek Nowak as Head Coach. We won the game 3:0 and the appetite to participate grew even higher.
In the last week of March 2015, the PVG was registered with Galway City Council as Non Profit Sport Club. Our aim was to take part in the West Mix League so we organized a party in Róisín Dubh to get money for a start.
We received our first Official uniforms in August and registered with Volleyball A.I. in September 2015 and came second in the October 2015/16 Mix League. We were delighted that Piotr Gruszka, famous Polish volleyball player, wished us luck!!
In 2016/17 we participated in Mix League (2nd place) and Division 2 Men's League (5th place).
In 2017/18 we participated in Mix League (1st place) and Division 2 Men's League (6th place).
Our Women's Teams Origin
Our journey began in 2012–13, and what a first season it was. In our very first year of activities, we won the Intermediate Championship and earned promotion to the Premier League, immediately establishing ourselves as a club with ambitions to compete at the highest level.
The following season, 2013–14, brought further recognition for our players, with Katerina Axaopoulou and Amanda Molloy both being selected as All Stars.
In 2014–15, we added another trophy to our growing collection, winning the Association Cup and continuing to build on the success of our first few seasons.
The 2015–16 season brought another piece of silverware as we lifted the Association Shield. The season was also marked by individual recognition, with Lucie Ruzickova receiving an All Star award.
Our most successful season to date came in 2016–17. We completed the double, winning both the Premier League and the Association Cup. Our players were also recognised individually, with Hana Novackova, Giulia Trivellin and Lucie Ruzickova all receiving All Star awards.
In 2017–18, we continued our strong run of success by winning the Association Shield. Once again, our players received individual recognition, with Ivana Dogan and Katerina Axaopoulou both named as All Stars.
From winning the Intermediate Championship in our first season to competing for major trophies and producing multiple All Star players, these first six seasons established the foundations for the club and set the standard for everything that followed.
Youth Development
Lee Annand, our former head coach from Tribes Volleyball Centre, took over the club in 2017. Over the next 5 years GVC worked closely with Volleyball Ireland, Galway Sports Partnership, local schools and communities to provide a safe, fun environment for all ages. We achieved this be pushing our coaches to attend the highest coaching achilleate in Ireland become certified in Tier 3 Coach Development Programme and levels 1-3 Safeguarding to protect our youth.
Galway Volleyball Club also were awarded the Youth Development Award 2021/2022 by Volleyball Ireland at the Awards in Dublin this year.
GVC Junior teams won the U16 Girls League in 2021/22, the Women Development League in 2021/22 and got bronze in 2022/23, and won the Men Development League in 2022/23. In 2023/24, GVC won the Women's Development League once more. In 2024/2025 our U18 Premier Girls team won the All Ireland Championship
In 2022, Lee was head coach for the under 22's Irish Beach Volleyball National teams to Cardiff and played in the Commonwealth Cup, achieving bronze in both the Women and Men's competitions.
In 2025 we started our dedicated Junior Development program allowing children aged 10 - 15 to begin playing volleyball for fun
